LOS CABOS, Mexico — Former University of Tulsa Tennis standout Marcelo Arevalo achieved his first ATP World Tour doubles gold, winning in straight sets against American Taylor Fritz and Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis, 6-4, 6-4, in Los Cabos, Mexico.
The El Salvador native and his partner, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, improved to 1-1 in ATP World Tour finals after their victory.
Coming in as the third seed, the tandem saved all three break points and converted two break opportunities en route to earning 250 ATP Doubles Rankings points and splitting $38,780 in prize money.
As a member of the Golden Hurricane, Arevalo was a two-time letterwinner and all-conference performer. He was named C-USA Player of the Year and ITA Central Region Player to Watch as a sophomore.
Arevalo compiled a career 29-14 singles mark and 30-11 doubles record in his tenure at Tulsa.
