The Tulsa women's soccer team battled Little Rock to a 1-1 tie in an exhibition contest on Thursday night at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex in Little Rock, Ark.

"It was what we wanted out of the game," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "It was competitive, but we were able to play everyone, and it gave us a chance to see what we need to work on. We've only been in preseason for eight days and we've focused on defense, so there are things we can improve on on the defensive side. It also showed us what to work on on the offensive side, which is what we are working on this week."

The two teams played a non-traditional game format with three 30-minute periods.

Freshman forward Mia Darden scored the Golden Hurricane goal to put TU up 1-0 in the 40^th minute, but the Trojans' Doro Greulich evened the score in the third frame for the tied score.

Darden's goal was scored when on a counter attack, a long ball was played up to Anna Williams who played a ball in the air to Darden and she slotted it past a defender and the goalkeeper.

Both teams finished with 10 shots, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal by Little Rock. Alyssa Kaiser led the way for Tulsa with three shots, while Neha Igwe added two attempts and five other Hurricane players had one shot.

Mica MacKay, a sophomore transfer, logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves.

Tulsa will open the regular season on Thursday, August 16 against Oklahoma State. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
