TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa cross country teams will look to continue their hot starts to the season on Friday afternoon when the Golden Hurricane will compete as part of a strong field at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis.
The race will serve as the final tune-up before the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will take place on Oct. 25 in New Orleans, La. The action in Wisconsin begins with the women's 6K run at 12:20 p.m. and that will be followed by the men's 8K at 1 p.m.
Of the 34 teams competing in the men's race, 18 are ranked in the latest USTFCCCA top-30 poll. The women's race features 15 ranked squads out of 33 competing teams. TU is the only American Athletic Conference member in the field.
The Hurricane men have won both of the squad's races this season, taking the top spot in the Hurricane Invitational (Sept. 1) and Southern Stampede (Sept. 15), while the women's squad also is coming off a win at the Southern Stampede two weeks ago.
Reagan Hausmann paced the women's team at the Southern Stampede with the first individual victory of her career. She finished with a 5K time of 17:26.5 and the Golden Hurricane placed four runners in the top 10 to earn the win. Hausmann was followed by Caitlin Klopfer (2nd, 17:33.0), Caroline Miller (5th, 17:46.6) and Alyssa Bolliger (8th, 17:49.8).
Meanwhile, the men placed four runners in the top 15 of the 8K race, led by Peter Lynch's third-place finish with a time of 24:56.2. Austin Del Rosso (10th, 25:22.4), Adam Breaux (13th, 25:30.8) and Cameron Field (14th, 25:36.8) were not far behind.
