Tulsa Men’s Tennis Closes Out Pre-Qualifying Round of ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa men's tennis freshman Tom Thelwall-Jones completed his appearance in the pre-qualifying round of the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In his first and only match of the day, Thelwall-Jones fell to in-state foe Emile Hudd of Oklahoma State, 6-4, 6-3.
In the first set, both sides held serve until Hudd broke Thelwall-Jones' serve to go up, 5-3. Thelwall-Jones retaliated by breaking Hudd's serve, bringing the frame closer, trailing just one game. Despite the late rally, Hudd took set one, 6-4.
The Wales native found his rhythm late in set two, taking two-straight games to bring the frame back to 4-2. Hudd's lead would prove too great, as Thelwall-Jones fought but dropped the set and match, 6-3.
With Tulsa's debut in the pre-qualifying round finished, the qualifying round is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 1. Four Hurricane athletes are set to make an appearance in the qualifying singles draw: Boriss Kamdem, Daniel Siddall, Jarod Hing and Joshua Goodger.
For doubles, the team of Kamdem/Thelwall-Jones is awaiting to see if it will be entered in the qualifying draw, while the duo of Majed Kilani and Kody Pearson is already slotted in the qualifying round.
In last year's qualifying round, Goodger found tremendous success, taking down the No. 58 ranked player and No. 2 ranked freshman by the ITA to advance to the main draw.

This marks the 14th-straight year Tulsa serves as the official tournament host.
