Crystal Polk and Desiree Lewis each had double-doubles to lead Tulsa to a 75-55 win over ECU on Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 9-7 on the season and 3-0 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Pirates fell to 10-6 overall and 1-2 in the league.

"It is always nice to get off to a 14-point lead before the other team scores," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "I am proud of our effort.  It is about how hard our team played and when you play that hard you create opportunities for each other.   Coming into this game we wanted to "take care of the rock" and to have only 12 turnovers against that kind of pressure was taking care of the rock."

TU is now 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2008.

"We knew things could be iffy to be on the road for the first time in a month, but give credit to our guys for staying focused and taking care of business," Mossman said.

This was Lewis' third-straight double-double as she had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Polk had 22 points and 14 rebounds for her fifth of the season.  Alexis Gaulden added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Rebecca Lescay had nine points.

Tulsa has a 58-41 lead in rebounds and a 15-9 advantage in assists, while ECU had a 7-2 lead in blocks and an 8-3 advantage in steals.  The Hurricane shot 40-percent from the field, 38-percent from three-point range and 66-percent from the free throw line, while the Pirates shot 29-percent from the field, 20-percent from behind the arc and 50-percent from the charity stripe.

Tulsa jumped out to a 14-0 lead over ECU with 6:36 on the clock in the first quarter as TU hit five of their first six shots for 83-percent.  The Pirates battled back and pulled to within six twice, but TU had a 26-17 lead at the break on a half-court three-pointer made by Rebecca Lescay.  It was Lescay's first career three-pointer.

In the second half, TU inched ahead to a 15-point lead, 42-27, with 47-seconds to play, but Raven Johnson made a free throw at the 20-second mark for the halftime score.

Polk had a team-best 10 points and seven rebounds at the break, while TU was shooting 45-percent from both the field and from behind the arc.

The Golden Hurricane had an 18-point lead, 50-32, over ECU with 4:58 to play in the third quarter, and took a 60-43 advantage with one frame to play.  Tulsa had a game-high 23-point advantage with 53-seconds to play (75-52), and earned the 20-point win.

ECU was led by Raven Johnson with 17 points, while Lashonda Monk had 11 points and Alex Frazier had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, January 16 at UCF.  Game time is set for 5:00 pm Central in Orlando, Fla.
