TULSA, Okla.
– The University of Tulsa men's tennis team (3-1) upset the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs (0-1), 4-2, inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Friday night.

The win marks the first time TU has defeated the Horned Frogs since a March 2, 2014, match that ended 4-3 in favor of the Golden Hurricane. It's also the team's highest ranked win since defeating No. 4 Texas 4-3 on Jan. 20, 2017.

Tulsa started slow in doubles, as the duo of senior Majed Kilani and junior Jarod Hing fell to TCU's Alex Rybakov and Alastair Gray, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot, newcomers Kody Pearson and Daniel Siddall edged out Sander Jong and Luc Fomba, 6-4 to tie up the doubles point.

As it came down to the No. 2 doubles match of Joshua Goodger/Boriss Kamdem and Bertus Kruger/Reese Stalder, the TCU duo went up 5-4. The Golden Hurricane tandem rallied off three straight games in the set to clinch the doubles point for Tulsa, 7-5.

Heading into singles play, the Golden Hurricane took four of the six first sets. Stefan Hampe picked up the first singles victory for Tulsa, 7-6(1), 6-2, over No. 69-ranked Eduardo Roldan after Kilani fell in his match to Gray, 6-4, 6-2, to regain the overall lead.

Pearson pulled ahead to clinch in the third set of his match against No. 65 Kruger, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. To follow, Goodger battled in No. 14 Rybakov the distance, but fell 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, to pull TCU within one 3-2.

The match would end on court three, as Hing found himself in another match-clinching situation and pulled through, edging out Stalder with a 6-4, 6(2)-7, 6-4 victory to take the match.

Head coach Vince Westbrook's squad will get more than a week to rest and prepare for a Sunday, January 27 doubleheader, in which TU will host Abilene Christian at 9 a.m. CT and Nebraska-Omaha at 3 p.m. CT.
