TU Nation:
Welcome to the New Year! I hope that you had a joyous holiday season. Here's wishing you and your loved ones a prosperous and healthy 2019 and beyond.
As we begin the new year, we look forward to our basketball teams beginning American Athletic Conference action this week. The men's team with 10 wins, including victories over #16-ranked Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Dayton, are poised for a strong run in the league.
We hope that you'll join us for January home games against USF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston and Memphis. We've already seen this season the impact a large and raucous crowd can have on our team's success. Book this Saturday, Jan. 5, when our Hurricane team returns to face South Florida at the Reynolds Center for a 5 p.m. game.
The Tulsa women have posted six non-conference wins heading into their conference schedule beginning at home this Friday night against Wichita State at 7 p.m.
Spring also brings us the sports of golf, rowing, softball, tennis and track & field.
As we begin 2019, let me take a quick look back to the fall where our men's cross-country team won a ninth straight conference championship, giving us 16 American Athletic Conference titles across all sports since joining the league in 2014. Our women's cross-country team finished as the league runners-up.
Volleyball returned to post-season action with an appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, while finishing the season with 19 wins.
With a season-ending football win over SMU, our team ended the year by winning 2 of the final 4 games and will enter the 2019 fall season with a more veteran group than we've seen over the past two seasons. Both soccer teams also had young rosters – led by freshmen and sophomores – in 2018.
Once again, our student-athletes excelled in the classroom during the fall semester and just over 20 of our athletes received their degrees at December commencement.
There's a lot of great things on the horizon for Golden Hurricane sports in 2019 and I hope that you take part in cheering on our student-athletes as they continue to excel on the courts and fields of play as well as in the classroom!
Again, thanks to TU Nation for all of your support!
Go TU!
