Warren Shackelford, a University of Tulsa basketball letterwinner from 1949-53 and later a TU Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, died at the age of 87 on Sunday.

Shackelford was labeled as one of the 'finest floor men' in the nation as a Golden Hurricane senior in the 1952-53 season, while leading his team to the 1953 NIT. He was Tulsa's second-leading scorer his junior and senior seasons, while leading the team in rebounds both years despite standing only six-feet tall.

He averaged over 10 points for his career and earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors both as a junior and senior under legendary Tulsa coach Clarence Iba. Shackelford came to Tulsa after a standout prep career at Kansas (Okla.) High School.

Shackelford was inducted into the TU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.

Visitation is on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, Okla. The funeral service will be held in Bulldog Arena at Jay High School at 2 pm Thursday.
