NORMAN, Okla. - Tulsa sophomore Kody Pearson went 2-0 in the singles main draw on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA Central Regional Championships. The championships, which are being hosted by Oklahoma and played at the Headington Family Tennis Center, feature 16 teams from across the region.
The third seed in singles competition, Pearson started the morning in the Round of 32. He picked up his second consecutive singles win, defeating Oklahoma State's Luke Hammond in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. He then took to the court against Minnesota freshman Siim Troost in the Round of 16.
Pearson would capture the first set, 6-1, but the 13th-seeded Gopher fought back to tie the match, 7-6. The two players would exchange games in a tight third set. Pearson was able to keep the momentum on his side long enough to capture the victory. He improves to 3-2 in singles play this season.
