PITTSBURG, Kan. -
Redshirt junior Carsyn Spurgeon set a new program record in the long jump, as the Tulsa track and field team opened the indoor season at the Crimson & Gold Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

Spurgeon shattered the program record with a leap of 19' 11.5" (6.08m) for first place. Her jump bested the previous indoor mark by 5.5 feet. Entering the invitational, she had the fourth-best indoor jump at TU with a mark of 18' 8". The mark currently ranks sixth in Division I.

Four additional Golden Hurricane to set new personal-best marks at Pitt State, as well as winning their respective events.

Allison Bailey won the 600-yard dash with a new personal-time of 1:23.64. The redshirt junior shaved over two seconds off her previous time. Jaidyn McCallon's time in the 200-meter dash (25.09) was bested by .14 seconds.

On the men's side, Zachary Adee bested his time in the 60-meter dash by .09 seconds, finishing at 6.95. Rory Mitchell set new PR's in the 60 (7.41) and 200-meter dashes (23.38). The sophomore cut .06 seconds off on his time in the 60-meter run and .09 seconds in the 200 meters.

Kinga Parrish and McCallon each captured gold for TU. McCallon competed in the 300-meter dash for the first time in her career, winning with a time of 39.47. She also finished third in the 600-yard dash at 1:25.67. As for Parrish, she won her first collegiate event in the 800-meter run at 2:17.33.

Three other Hurricane joined McCallon in taking home bronze on Saturday. Keely Jones posted a time of 2:17.65 in the 800-meter run. In the mile run, Emily Lowery sprinted to a time of 5:07.90. Ca'Purnika Galbert was the final medalist. She competed in the 300-meter dash, finishing at 40.70.

Henry Visser secured two top-seven finishes for the men. The junior finished fourth in the 300-meter dash at 34.68. He also took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37.

In total, the Hurricane finished in the top five in 12 events.

Tulsa will return to action after the holidays. TU is set to compete in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, January 17, 2020.
