Spurgeon, Brown Have Record Book Performances at Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Carsyn Spurgeon and Jacob Brown each finished with the second-best performances in their events in program history on Friday, as the Tulsa track and field team competed at the Arkansas Invitational, hosted by Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track.
After finishing the Crimson & Gold Invitational in December posting a new school record in the long jump, Spurgeon finished with the second-best jump in the books on Friday afternoon. She won the event with a mark of 6.00m (19' 8.25"). Spurgeon is the lone Hurricane to have multiple jumps of 19+ inches in the indoor season at TU.
Brown captured silver in his first event with the Golden Hurricane. He crossed the finish line at 2:24.62 and topped Simon Greiner's time from 2014 by 24 hundredths of a second. The England native was one of four Hurricane in the top 10 in the event. Cameron Field claimed fifth with a personal-best time of 2:26.44. Christian Baker finished at 2:29.32 for seventh, and Pete Johnson had a time of 2:31.55 for ninth.
Field was one of three Hurricane to set a new PR's in the 1,000-meter run. Adrena Mazzei took sixth place at 2:55.71, while Katharina Pesendorfer claimed eighth at 2:57.73. Keely Jones was to the TU runner in the event, as she ran to a time of 2:55.35 for fifth.
Allison Bailey and Scott Beattie both captured bronze for TU. Bailey ran in the 600-meter run and posted a time of 1:35.88. Beattie was among four Hurricane running in the mile, where he finished at 4:09.69. Jackson Schwartz time of 4:14.26 in the mile was also a personal-best.
Josh Sutton was the lone Hurricane to top multiple best times. His time of 6.95 in the 60-meter dash bettered his season-best by two-hundredths of a second. Sutton's time of 22.16 in the 200-meter dash is also a season-best.
Kinga Parrish's captured fourth place in the 800-meter run at 2:19.90.
Layla Roebke was the final competitor to set a PR, as she set a new season-best in the mile with a time of 5:09.58.
The Golden Hurricane will return to action Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1. Head coach Steve Gulley will send members of the men's and women's teams to the Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by Iowa and the Indiana University Relays.
