TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa track and field team returns to competition on Saturday, February 1, as head coach Steve Gulley's squad is set to compete at the Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by Iowa, and the Indiana University Relays, hosted by Indiana.

The field includes - Barton, Bradley, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Iowa, Iowa Western, Loyola, Marquette, Minnesota State - Mankato and Northern Iowa. Saturday's competition kicks off at 11 a.m. with men's shot put. The first running event gets underway at 2:35 p.m. with the women's 60m hurdle preliminaries.

Six members of the men's team will travel to Indiana for the IU Relays. The Hurricane are scheduled to only compete in the mile run at 10:30 a.m. CT, followed by the 3,000m at 12:45 p.m. CT. On Monday, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the first regional rankings of the indoor season. In the Midwest region, the Tulsa women were ranked 21st, while the men came in at 27th in the team rankings.

Heading into the weekend, Tulsa has only competed at two invitationals this season, including one meet in 2020. At the Arkansas Invitational on January 17, Carsyn Spurgeon and Jacob Brown each had record book performances.

After setting a new program record in the long jump in December, Spurgeon posted the second-best mark in indoor competition, as she won the long jump with a mark of 6.0 meters (19' 8.25"). Brown captured silver in his first career event at Tulsa in the 3,000m to a time of 2:24.62. His time also ranks second in program history.
