Golden Hurricane Earn 11 Medals at Black & Gold Invite, IU Relays

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa track and field team finished with 11 medals on Saturday, as the Golden Hurricane competed at the Indiana University Relays and the Black & Gold Invite.

At the Black & Gold Invite, hosted by Iowa, two members of the men's team captured first place finishes. In the unseeded 3,000-meter, Malte Propp set a new meet record with a time of 8:35.52. Christian Baker was the winner in the mile run, as he crossed the finish line in 4:09.91.

The remaining nine medalist all came from the women's team. In total, TU had finishers in the top three in three events.

In the mile run, Kelly Jones finished second in 4:58.04, while Adrena Mazzei finished three hundredths of a second later at 4:58.07. In the 800-meter run, Allison Bailey finished runner-up by just one second to time of 2:12.45. Kinga Parrish took bronze with a time of 2:15.10. The third TU duo in the top three came in the 3,000-meter run. Calitlin Klopfer ran to a time of 9:51.15 for second, followed by Ashley Barnes at 9:58.48.

Carsyn Spurgeon took second in the long jump with a jump of 5.98m (19' 7.5"). Her mark was the best among collegiate competitors. The redshirt junior was also the final leg in Tulsa's 4x400-meter relay 'A' squad that claimed second in 3:52.55.

Jaidyn McCallon, who was the third leg in the 'A' 4x400 team, took third place in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.69.

At the Indiana University Relays, hosted by Indiana, six members of the men's team competed in the mile and 3,000-meter runs. In the 3,000m, Peter Lynch had the top time for the Golden Hurricane at 8:08.12 for eighth, followed by Patrick Dever at 8:09.96 in ninth. In the mile run, Cameron Field posted a time of 4:06.86 for eighth.

The Golden Hurricane will be in action one more time before The American Indoor Championships. Tulsa will send competitors to the Fifth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic and the Iowa State Classic. Each invite begins on Friday, February 14, and spans two days.
