TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa track and field team will split up for just the second time this season, as the Golden Hurricane are scheduled to compete in the Iowa State Classic and the Fifth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic this weekend.

Head coach Steve Gulley will send the majority of his squad to the Iowa State Classic. The two-day invitational begins with four field events and one running event on Friday at 12 noon. Male competitors will compete in the long jump, weight throw and pole vault, while the women take part in the high jump. The women will also kick off the running events, beginning with the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash. Following a mid-afternoon break, track events will start back up at approximately 5 p.m. with the men's 5,000-meter run.

On Saturday, the action resumes at 12 noon with the men's triple jump, shot put and high jump. Female competitors will compete in the pole vault and open the running events with the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles.

The remaining Golden Hurricane will travel to Pittsburg State for the Fifth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic. Field events begin with the men's weight throw, long jump and high jump on Friday at 2 p.m. The qualifying round of the women's 60-meter hurdles opens the track events at 3 p.m. TU currently has no one competing in any field events at Pitt State.

Saturday's schedule of events begins with the men's 4x800-meter relay in the morning session at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m. with the final round of the men's 60m hurdles.

These are currently the final two invites the Golden Hurricane will compete in before traveling to Birmingham, Alabama, for the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day conference championship meet begins on Friday, February 28, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
