Golden Hurricane Have Strong Showing on Day One of Iowa State Classic, Gorilla Classic

Iowa State Classic Friday Results Indoor Gorilla Classic Friday Results

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa track and field team had strong showings at the Iowa State Classic and the Fifth Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic on Friday, as 17 competitors set new personal-bests.

On the men's side, Josh Sutton qualified for the 60-meter finals at Iowa State. After taking second in the preliminary round with a time of 6.96, he finished second overall at 6.89.

Jackson Schwartz cut over five seconds off his previous best time in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 8:21.15. Malte Propp erased almost 10 seconds off his PR from two weeks ago at Iowa, as he ran to a time of 8:25.74.

Scott Beattie secured a time of 14:08.09 in the 5,000-meter run for fifth. Peter Lynch and Isaac Akers finished right behind him with PR times of 14:09.04 and 14:10.44, respectively. Patrick Dever took sixth in the 5,000-meter invite at 13:54.39.

On the women's side, Brianna Hays finished third in the 600-yard run with a personal-best time of 1:26.74. She was joined by teammate Jaidah McCallon in the top three, as the sophomore captured silver in 1:25.83.

Carsyn Spurgeon finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.86m (19' 2.75").

Four Hurricane set PR times in the 3,000-meter run, including Katharina Pesendorfer (9:45.87) and Caroline Miller (9:46.02). The two finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

The Hurricane will wrap up competition at Iowa State and Pittsburg State tomorrow on day two of each invite.
