TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis squad (8-1) picked up a 7-0 sweep over crosstown rivals Oral Roberts (1-2) on Friday inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
With the win, the Golden Hurricane continues its win streak, now emerging victorious in seven-straight dual matches. The seven-match streak marks the longest since the 2012-13 dual season.
Tulsa remained uniform in doubles, sweeping the doubles point with 6-4 victories in all three matches. The freshmen tandem of Kody Pearson and Daniel Siddall was the first to strike over Oral Roberts' Kenneth Boykin and Marcello Moreira. With the win, the Tulsa duo improves to a perfect 8-0 in the dual season.
Majed Kilani/Tom Thelwall-Jones and Joshua Goodger/Boriss Kamdem would follow suit, adding 6-4 wins over the Golden Eagles' duos to allow Tulsa a 1-0 lead heading into singles. The Kilani/Thelwall-Jones victory was the first of the dual season for the tandem, and the first time the duo has played together in 2019.
Siddall managed the first Tulsa victory in singles at the No. 5 spot, taking down ORU's Eddy Leardini in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Kamdem would also manage a straight-set win soon after, adding a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 position.
To push the Tulsa lead to 4-0, Thelwall-Jones defeated Blake Sprouse, 6-2, 6-1. Fellow freshman Pearson tallied a 6-3, 6-2 victory in his second win at No. 2 singles of the dual season.
In the final two singles matches, Goodger finished with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the top singles spot, while freshman Stefan Hampe added a 6-3, 6-3 victory to clinch the sweep for the Golden Hurricane.
With an 8-1 record under its belt, head coach Vince Westbrook's squad will face its first road test of the season on Sunday, when Tulsa travels to the Natural State for a 1 p.m. CT showdown with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
