BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The University of Tulsa track and field squad heads to Birmingham, Alabama, for the American Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, scheduled to compete all day Friday and Saturday inside the Birmingham Crossplex.
A season ago at the conference meet, Ben Preisner completed a trio of titles, taking home the 3,000 meter (8:12.89), 5,000 meter (14:09.90) and distance medley relay (10:01.07) golds.
In addition, Preisner broke his own meet record in the 5,000-meter run, a mark he set in his sophomore season. The Canada native will look to complete the three-peat this weekend in his last year of eligibility.
Heading into this weekend's meet, the Golden Hurricane have seen a slew of strong performances in the indoor season. Scott Beattie, who was named the 2018 Cross Country Freshman of the Year, paces the American in the 5,000 meters, clocking a 13:49.52 for the conference's only sub-14 so far this season.
On the women's side, redshirt-sophomore Caitlin Klopfer looks to make a splash in the 5,000 meters, already running a 16:28.82 for a massive PR and the third-best time in indoor school history at the Iowa State Classic.
Both days of competition are set to begin at 9 a.m. CT with the multi-events. The meet is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, Feb. 23, with the women's and men's 4x400-meter relay at 2:40 and 2:50 p.m. CT, respectively.
Fans can follow along with live coverage via Facebook, as the American Digital Network will stream both days of competition here. Live results as each event finishes will also be available via Xpress Timing here.
