Tulsa Picks Up Big Marks at Iowa State Classic, Indoor Gorilla Classic

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa track and field team wrapped up a loaded weekend, taking part in the Iowa State Classic and Indoor Gorilla Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Caitlin Klopfer picked up the most notable mark of the weekend for the Golden Hurricane at the Iowa State Classic, running 16:28.82 in the 5,000 meters for the second-place finish, along with the third-best time in indoor school history in the event.
On the men's side, Scott Beattie also managed a historic time for TU in the 5,000 meters, going 13:59.42 for the No. 7 mark in indoor Tulsa all-time in the event.
In addition to making school history, numerous TU athletes set personal-best marks throughout the weekend. Sprinter Ca'Purnika Galbert notched the first for Tulsa, setting a personal-best time of 25.41 in the 200 meters.
Fellow sprinter Zachary Adee also tallied a PR in Iowa, running 7.04 in the preliminary heat to qualify for the finals. Freshman Jaidyn McCallon followed suit, picking up a personal-best 55.85 among the nation's best sprinters at the ISU Classic for second place.
At the Indoor Gorilla Classic, Reed Sahadevan managed a 14:49.17 in the 5,000 meters to crush his personal record, which earned him seventh place overall.
In the mile at the Iowa State Classic, Jerik Embleton and Adam Breaux ran nearly identical times, going 4:13.00 and 4:13.19, respectively. Both times marked career bests for the middle-distance runners.
Two Tulsa athletes picked up personal-best marks in the 3,000 meters at the ISU Classic, as Jenny O'Bryan (10:16.47) and Peter Lynch (8:29.40) tallied career-best times in the event.
To cap off the successful weekend for Tulsa, August Bont managed a 1:55.54 PR in the men's 800 meters in Kansas in one of the final individual events of the weekend for the Golden Hurricane.
TU resumes its busy indoor schedule next weekend, as the team will travel to South Bend, Indiana, to the Alex Wilson Invitational in preparation for the American Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Birmingham, Alabama.
