TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tulsa softball team opened American Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon, falling at USF in extra-innings, 4-0 at the USF Softball Stadium.
Morgan Neal led the Golden Hurricane (19-9, 0-1) on offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, while Kassidy Scott went 7.1 innings and fell to 5-2 with the loss. TU saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end.
Meanwhile, Macy Cook provided the only runs of the day for the Bulls (23-12, 1-0) with a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning. The blast gave Georgina Corrick the win and she moved to 12-1 with 16 strikeouts in eight shutout frames.
Tulsa threatened in the top of the first with a pair of one-out singles from Josie Muffley and Neal. However, Corrick notched a pair of strikeouts to get out of the jam.
Scott kept USF off balanced as she scattered five hits through the first six innings and Corrick matched her each scoreless frame.
The Hurricane got a runner on in the top of the eighth on a USF error, but was unable to score. The Bulls rallied with one out and loaded the bases on a pair of singles and an error. Cook then ended the contest with her fourth homer of the season, which gave the home team a 4-0 win.
The series will continue with a 3 p.m. (CT) game on Saturday at the USF Softball Stadium.
