Alexis Gaulden and Desiree Lewis both scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa dropped a 66-54 decision to UCF in the American Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.  The Golden Hurricane ended the season with a 13-18 record on the season, while the Knights moved to 25-5 overall.

"I am just really proud of how hard our kids fought," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We kept getting down, but we kept fighting back.  I give a lot of credit UCF for making some really tough shots.  We guarded about as well as we could, but they hit some incredible shots.  That was the difference.  It came down to hitting shots."

Gaulden had a team-best 18 points, while Lewis added 12 points, senior Crystal Polk tallied nine and Morgan Brady posted eight.  Polk, Gaulden, Brady and Lewis all pulled down five rebounds.

UCF had a 33-31 lead in rebounds, a 12-9 advantage in assists and a 6-0 lead in blocks.  Both teams had nine steals in the contest.

On the night, Tulsa shot 33-percent from the field, 27-percent from behind the arc and 73-percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line, while UCF shot 56-percent from the field, 28-percent from three-point range and 50-percent (4-of-8) from the line.

UCF scored 38 points in the paint, 25 points off the bench and 23 points off turnovers, compared to Tulsa 26 points in the paint, 15 points off the bench and 12 points off turnovers.  Tulsa had a 13-4 lead in second chance points.

UCF shot a solid 41-percent, but only led the Golden Hurricane, which shot just 20-percent in the first frame, 10-8, at the end of the quarter.

The Knights started the second period with a 9-2 run to take a 19-10 lead with 6:52 on the clock and led by as many as 11 points, 23-12, at the 4:32 mark.  The Golden Hurricane went on a 9-0 run to pull within two, 23-21, with 2:48 to play, but UCF closed out the frame with their own 9-0 run to lead 32-21 at the break.

Tulsa battled in the third quarter, outscoring UCF, 22-11, to tie the score at 43-43 to end the frame.  Tulsa shot 46.7-percent from the field in the quarter, while UCF shot 38.5-percent.

UCF came out fired up in the fourth quarter, shooting at a 76.9-percnet clip and outscoring Tulsa, 23-11, in the 10-minute period, for the 12-point win.
