Tulsa’s Varsity 4+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ Record Top Marks in Final Day of Lake Natoma Invitational
4/14/2019 12:08:00 PM | Rowing
Tulsa's Varsity 4+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ boats both finished ahead of Sacramento State and Miami on Sunday morning at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif.
"It was good to race this group of crews this weekend," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "Our team learned a ton throughout the weekend. It was tough to drop the Varsity 8+ race to a conference foe in Sacramento State, but we will race them again at the American Athletic Conference Championships next month. It was also good to see the 2nd Varsity 8+, which was behind all race, push through and finish first. We are excited to come home and work on some things before we head to Clemson next weekend."
Katie Shin, Paige Hallam, Madeline Oleksiak, Alessia Ruggiu and Mikala Burns raced the Varsity 4+ to a time of 7:34.7, nearly nine seconds ahead of Miami (7:43.38) and 12 seconds faster than Sacramento State (7:46.13).
In the 2nd Varsity 8+ race, TU edged out Sacramento State by 1.1 seconds with times of 6:48.73 and 6:49.87, respectively, while Miami was third (7:03.87).
Sacramento State took the Varsity 8+ race by seven-tenths of a second with a time of 6:44.71, while the Golden Hurricane was second (6:45.46). Miami recorded a third-place time of 6:49.14.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
