PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Tulsa junior infielder Alexis Perry has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Perry helped Tulsa to a 3-1 week, which included a three-game series sweep of UCF, by hitting .545 (6-of-11) with four runs, two doubles, a grand slam and six RBIs. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and had at least one hit in all four games during the week.
She aided TU comebacks in games one and two of the series against UCF, beginning with Friday's two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth that gave the Hurricane a lead it would not relinquish to take the series opener. In game two, she started a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff single.
Finally on Saturday, Perry delivered the knockout blow in the series sweep with a grand slam in the sixth inning to help turn a 2-0 lead into a 6-0 victory. The blast capped a stellar day for Perry, who went 3-for-3 with a double, homer and season-high four RBIs.
Tulsa pitcher Samantha Pochop also was named to the league's weekly honor roll after she went 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA and 12 strikeouts in nine innings.
Perry, Pochop and the Golden Hurricane will return to the diamond at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26 when it will host Wichita State (28-20, 9-6) at Collins Family Softball Complex, in a game that will be broadcast to a national audience on ESPNU.
