"Mother nature made it a challenge on the hosting side, we had a lot of wind, but it is an outdoor sport so sometimes we have those challenges, but luckily we were able to race. I'm proud that we were able to host and bring this regatta to Oklahoma. As far as finishing third, I think that is a great result today. We've finished second four times and now we finish third, but the weather has really affected us with the river flooding on our home course. I feel like the Golden Hurricane rallied and put down some great races today in some very challenging conditions. It was good to see the team rally and go after it, and I think they put up a heck of a fight today."
Â
Lindsey Smith, Julia Olawumi, Mikala Burns, Alessia Ruggiu and Madeline Oleksiak raced the Varsity 4+ to a second-place time of 8:17.024 to earn a silver medal. The Golden Hurricane finished behind UCF (8:07.240), but ahead of SMU (8:20.816), San Diego State (8:24.712), Temple (8:38.108), Old Dominion (8:41.923) and UConn (8:59.444).
Â
Sam Barber, Sophia Camara, Bobbi Forster, Becky Coleman, Ellie Russell, Helen Leigh, Veronique Ulrich, Julia Herrel and Paige Hallam captured a third-place finish for the bronze medal in the Varsity 8+. SMU crossed the finish line first in a time of 7:13.415, followed by UCF (7:19.181), Tulsa (7:26.445), Temple (7:31.777), San Diego State (7:32.965), UConn (7:41.201) and Old Dominion (7:47.229).
