Final Notes

The University of Tulsa men's tennis squad concluded its 28th year under decorated head coach Vince Westbrook with a 14-12 overall record, a 14-6 mark in the 2019 home slate and the team's fifth consecutive first-round bye in the American Athletic Conference tournament.

The 14 wins marks the most for the TU squad since the 2015-16 season, in which the Golden Hurricane went 17-14 en route to qualifying for the NCAA Tennis Championships.

Senior Majed Kilani played past the regular season for the second-straight year, earning an alternate bid into the NCAA Men's Singles Championships. In the opening round, the Tunisia native fell in a hard-fought battle to UCLA's No. 36-ranked Keegan Smith, 6-2, 6-2.

Kilani remained a mainstay for the Tulsa lineup since his arrival in 2015. During his historic career at Tulsa, he ranked just outside the program's all-time top-10 with 67 career singles victories in his time at TU.

The senior was also the lone Golden Hurricane to earn an all-conference nod in his final campaign. The laurel marked his second-consecutive singles all-conference honor, as well as his third overall in his career. Kilani also earned a doubles nod following his sophomore year with decorated teammate Or-Ram Harel.

The squad defeated two nationally-ranked opponents in the 2019 campaign, earning victories over No. 14 TCU and No. 23 Oklahoma State. Westbrook's squad defeated the Horned Frogs at home on Jan. 18, 2019, 4-2, while TU took down the Cowboys 4-3 on March 13, 2019, in Tulsa.
