
Golden Hurricane Snap Three-Game Skid on Day One of KC Roos Klassic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Tulsa volleyball team snapped its three-game losing streak on Friday evening, as the Golden Hurricane split competition on day one of the KC Roos Klassic.
The Golden Hurricane (2-3) fell to South Dakota (5-1) in the morning, [17-25, 21-25, 22-25] before defeating LA Tech (3-2) in the nightcap, [27-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20].
Tulsa will play at Kansas City (1-2) in the final match of the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m. Links to live stats and live video can be found at TulsaHurricane.com.

Game 1: South Dakota 3, Tulsa 0
Trailing 1-0 after the first set, Tulsa found its ground in set two. Neither team was able to create much separation, as the Golden Hurricane and Coyotes combined for nine ties and nine lead changes throughout the set.
A kill by Callie Cook put the Golden Hurricane back on top, 19-18. But South Dakota responded on a 4-0 run and took seven of the final nine points.
The momentum shifted towards Tulsa again in the third set. Trailing 11-7, the Golden Hurricane embarked on a 9-2 run. That included six straight points to take for its first lead of the game.
Roosa Rautio set up Maddie Rhoder for three kills and Cook and Dilara Gedikoglu for one point each during the stretch.
TU remained ahead for the majority of the period, but the two teams were knotted seven times throughout the set.
It wasn't until the final points of the match that South Dakota would take the lead for good at 23-22.
Tulsa recorded 36 kills on a .143 attacking percentage South Dakota's .263 clip for 44 kills. The Coyotes had the advantage in digs, 48-43, and assists, 43-32.
Rautio and Mariah Pardo finished with 13 and 11 assists, respectively. Taylor Horsfall recorded 12 digs, while Rhoder and Cook had a pair of block assists.

Game 2: Tulsa 3, LA Tech 1
Entering the third set tied at 1-1, LA Tech jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Following a timeout, Tulsa embarked on a 7-0 run and took its first lead in the set. Maddie Rhoder, Callie Cook, and Dilara Gedikoglu each tallied a kill during the run with Roosa Rautio getting all three assists. Cook registered a solo block and block assist, while Rhoder added a block assist.
The Lady Techsters would capture the next two points, closing Tulsa's lead to one point at 8-6. However, the Golden Hurricane once again jumped out to a seven-point lead, it's second 4-0 of the set for a 20-12 advantage.
Tulsa won the third set, 25-18, leading by as much as eight points in the game.
In the fourth set, neither team led by more than two over the first 10 points. That would change following a kill by Aysu Dalogullari at 6-5. The Golden Hurricane would ignite and score six of the next seven points for a 12-6 advantage.
The Lady Techsters would close to within one point at 18-17, but TU responded with five straight. Rautio set up Gedikoglu and Maggie Hembree for two kills apiece, while Dalogullari recorded a service ace.
Tulsa ended the match with 56 kills on a .209 attacking percentage, while LA Tech registered 47 kills on a .178 clip. TU led LA Tech in assists, 51-44 and digs, 75-67. The Lady Techsters edged Tulsa in total blocks, 9-6 blocks, and had seven service aces to two for the Golden Hurricane.
Gedikoglu and Mariah Pardo each finished the match with a double-double. Gedikoglu finished with a season-high 25 kills and 19 digs. Pardo totaled 14 digs and 13 assists.
Rautio led all players with 30 assists, while Taylor Horsfall recorded a game-high 20 digs.
Pardo tallied one solo block and three block assists. Hembree registered three block assists, and Cook finished with a solo block and a block assist.
