Hurricane Softball Selected 3rd in the AAC Preseason Coach's Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Tulsa softball team was picked to finish third in The American Athletic Conference Preseason Coach's Poll by a vote of the league's head coaches, announced on Tuesday.
 
Tulsa, which has claimed four consecutive bids to an NCAA Regional, starts the season with first-year head coach Crissy Strimple. The Golden Hurricane went 37-20 last season finishing conference play 16-5. Tulsa ended their campaign falling in the final of the Stillwater Regional to the OSU Cowgirls.
 
USF was picked to win the conference, earning 6 first place votes ahead second-place Wichita State (1). Following Tulsa in the poll is UCF (1), Houston, East Carolina, Memphis and UConn.
 
Tulsa returns The American Rookie of the Year from last season, pitcher Chenise Delce, who boasted a 14-5 record with a 1.58 ERA in 123.2 innings pitched. Delce was also named to The American First Team All-Conference as a designated player/pitcher.
 
Second Team All-Conference pitcher, Samantha Pochop (12-8, 2.91 ERA), joins Delce in the rotation along with senior Kassidy Scott (9-6, 2.96).
 
Mikayla Whitten (.243, 28 R, 16 RBI, 7 SB) and Alexis Perry (.208, 6 2B, 28 RBI) return on the diamond for their senior seasons.
 
The 2020 season will start on Feb. 7 as the Hurricane compete in the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Ga. Tulsa will play five games the weekend of Feb. 7-9 starting with Tennessee Tech at 9:00 a.m. and Eastern Kentucky at 11:15 a.m. Tulsa opens conference play on March 20 at home against the UConn Huskies.
