Tulsa Women’s Basketball Begins Fall Practice on Thursday

The 2020-21 Tulsa women's basketball season got underway on Thursday with the first official team practice of the season at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane is led by Head Coach Matilda Mossman, who is in her 10th season at the helm.
"I really liked the transition period that we were able to have with 12-hours, eight hours on the court, and I think that was important from a skill-development sense, but now that we can add some time to that it is just a whole different level of excitement. You can see it in the players eyes, you can tell by the bounce in their step that they know this is real and for the next 30 practices we will get ready for November 25."
TU returns nine letterwinners from last season, as well as junior-transfer Madi Washington who had to sit out last year due to NCAA transfer rules. Tulsa added five newcomers to the roster, including two junior-transfers and three true freshmen. The Golden Hurricane will rely on it's two seniors, Morgan Brady and Rebecca Lescay, to help build a cohesive unit.
"The leadership starts with our seniors – Morgan and Rebecca," Mossman said. "They have been people we have leaned on ever since they stepped foot on campus. They are both mature, and dedicated in the classroom and on the court. Rebecca graduated from TU in three years and is working on her master's degree, while Morgan is wanting to be a speech pathologist. They are both intentional in what they do and are great teammates, so I am looking forward to their leadership as seniors on our team."
Even though the Golden Hurricane lost three of it's top-four scorers from last year in the likes of then seniors Kendrian Elliott (12.8 ppg), Addison Richards (8.0 ppg) and Alexis Gaulden (7.0 ppg), TU added solid shooters to this year's roster.
"I look at our group now compared to last year and we definitely have more depth and more shooters, and that is something we lacked last year," Mossman said. "Our shooting percentage from the three last year was 28-percent, you can't win many games when you shoot that, so that was a point of emphasis in recruiting, to bring in guys that can stretch the defense."
The Golden Hurricane is slated to play it's first game of the season on Nov. 25.
