Tulsa Falls to South Carolina in the Final Game of Hall of Fame Classic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –– Elijah Joiner tossed in 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for Tulsa (0-2), but South Carolina (1-1) outscored the Hurricane 35-25 in the second half, taking a 69-58 victory at the T-Mobile Center in the final round of the Hall of Fame Classic powered by ShotTracker.
The contest between the Hurricane and the Gamecocks concluded the final round of the Hall of Fame Classic powered by ShotTrack, hosted in the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. Tulsa finishes 0-2 in the tournament, while South Carolina moves to 1-1.
Brandon Rachal led the Hurricane in scoring for the second straight game, putting in 14 points on 4-10 shooting from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Keyshawn Embery-Simpson added in 11 points for the Hurricane and pulled down 2 rebounds.
As a team, Tulsa shot 40.4-percent from the field, while the Gamecocks knocked through 48-percent of its shots. For the second straight game, Tulsa had 25 or more points in the paint, this time scoring 26 against South Caroline.
Tulsa jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 2:15 of the game, converting 4-of-6 field goals, using five turnovers by South Carolina. However, the Gamecocks used an 8-0 run of their own giving Tulsa a 9-8 lead at the first media timeout.
Darien Jackson and Rey Idowu used back-to-back layups to extend the Hurricane lead to 4 at 13-9 with 14:23 left in the first. The Hurricane used a hook shot by Idowu at the 4:22 mark in the half to cap off a 4-0 run and extend their lead to 30-26.
Embery-Simpson led Tulsa in scoring with 11 points on 4-8 shooting during the first. Keshawn Williams, Joiner and Idowu all scored 6 points in the half.
To start the second half Tulsa used a 7-2 run, making 2 of its first 3 shots to retake the lead 40-38. The run was capped off by two free throws from Joiner.
South Carolina led by Jermaine Couisnard (20 points) and AJ Lawson (17 points) extended the Gamecocks lead to a game-high 13 with 3:06 left in the contest.
From the 12:22 mark of the second half to the 1:12 point the Hurricane did not make a field goal, scoring only two points on a pair of free throws by Brandon Rachal.
Tulsa made the last three field goals of the game with a layup from Jackson and a three pointer and dunk from Rachal; however, the Hurricane fell in the end by 11.
The Hurricane forced 24 turnovers during the game, scoring 21 points from them. The two teams combined for 48 turnovers in the contest.
