BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Miles Barnstable's three-pointer with 0.3 seconds left proved the difference in a hard-fought, 82-81, road victory over Western Kentucky on Friday at E.A. Diddle Arena. Tulsa is now 11-1 on the season, with one non-conference game to play, and winners of eight in a row. The game saw 13 lead changes and Tulsa never led by more than three points all night and led for a total of 4:35.
Tylen Riley scored 18 points and made all eight of his free throws, contributing two steals in the process. Ade Popoola added 17 points, converting four of six attempts from beyond the arc. David Green recorded 12 points and led the team with three steals, while also blocking a shot. Miles Barnstable also contributed 12 points, hitting three of his six 3-point attempts, with all of his points coming in the second half.
The first half began with Western Kentucky's Grant Newell sinking a 3-pointer at the 19:41 mark, setting the early pace. Tulsa's Riley answered with a series of jumpers, contributing to the Golden Hurricane's brief lead at 8-5. However, Western Kentucky's Teagan Moore and Ryan Myers helped regain momentum with key layups and a 3-pointer, pushing their team's advantage. Despite Tulsa's attempts to close the gap with a late 3-pointer by Myles Rigsby at the 29-second mark, Western Kentucky held a 37-30 lead at the end of the half.
The second half featured a dramatic back-and-forth contest between Tulsa and Western Kentucky. Tulsa's Barnstable opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, narrowing the gap to 37-33. Later in the half, with Tulsa trailing by one, Barnstable hit another crucial 3-pointer with one second remaining, assisted by Green, to secure a narrow 82-81 victory. Western Kentucky's Newell had a significant impact with multiple scoring plays, but it was not enough to stave off the Golden Hurricane's late rally.
Tulsa closes out non-conference play on Monday at home against Denver with a 2 p.m. start.
