Tulsa women's basketball player Wyvette Mayberry was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced today by the league office.

Mayberry made her collegiate debut a memorable one.  She tallied a team-leading 16 points in just 11:25 off the clock against Oklahoma State last week.

Mayberry started the game, but then went out due to an injury with 2:38 on the clock in the first quarter, when TU had an 18-13 lead.  Then with just 4:03 left in the contest and TU up by just four, 57-53, Mayberry re-entered the contest and hit two big three's, putting TU up 60-56 with 2:32 to play and then again at the 1:29 mark (63-58).  She then scored the final four points of the game for TU, going 4-of-4 from the free throw line for the final 69-62 score.

In the contest, Mayberry was 4-of-5 from the field (all of which were from behind the arc) and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.  She also added two rebounds, one assist and one block.  Her efforts gave TU their first win over a Big 12 opponent since 2005 when the Hurricane defeated OSU, 75-68, in double overtime in Stillwater.

This was TU's first and only other Freshman of the Week honor since the 2016-17 season when Kendrian Elliott, Alexis Gaulden and Shug Dickson each earned the honor twice.
