The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 63-44 decision to Memphis on Saturday afternoon at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse in Memphis, Tenn.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 6-16 on season and 1-8 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers moved to 11-10 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Memphis had a 37-34 lead in rebounds, a 12-11 edge in assists, a 13-10 advantage in steals and a 5-4 edge in blocks.  Memphis earned 19 of their points at the free throw line, after getting to the line 24 times, compared to Tulsa's 3-of-8 from the line.

"Even as poorly as we shot it we were even with them in a lot of categories," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "They hit one more field goal than we did and it happened to be a three.  The difference in the game was the fact that they made 19 free throws and we made three."

Addison Richards scored a team-best nine points, while Kendrian Elliott and Destiny Johnson both added eight points.  Elliott pulled down seven rebounds, and had three steals and two blocks.

Tulsa shot 32-percent from the field, including just 15-percent from behind the arc and 37-percent from the free throw line, while Memphis shot 40-percent from the field, 40-percent from three-point range and 79-percent from the line.

After Kayla Moutry hit a three-pointer to start the game, the Golden Hurricane missed their next five shots and Memphis took an 11-3 lead at the 5:07 mark.  At the end of the first quarter, Tulsa trailed Memphis, 19-9, as the Hurricane shot just 28-percent to the Tigers' 53-percent.

Tulsa and Memphis shot a similar 29-percent and 31-percent, respectively, and both scored 11 points in the second frame, giving the Tigers a 30-20 lead at halftime.

TU cut their deficit to seven twice in the third quarter, including a 32-25 score at the 5:42 mark and a 34-27 mark with 4:43 to play in the frame.  The Tigers doubled their lead on a 9-2 run (43-29) with 1:56 on the clock and owned a 45-33 advantage with one quarter to play.

Memphis outscored Tulsa, 18-11, in the final frame for the 19-point victory.

The Tigers were led by Dulcy Mendjiadeu with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Gazmyne Herndon added 11 points.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, February 5 against UCF.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
