The Tulsa rowing opened the 2021 fall campaign with two top three marks at the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta on the North Canadian River in Oklahoma City, Okla. The regatta will conclude on Sunday with the Single, Pair, Four and Quad races.
"I was really pleased with how we raced today," Tulsa Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "It was good to return to head racing and I thought the team handled the racing situation really well. It was nice to line up against some really good competition, including three NCAA teams from last year, and it was a good start to our season."
Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ 'A', consisting of Chloe Henderson, Madlen Markova, Sarolta Papp, Karen Undset, Bass Andre, Anna Shaw, Millie Brice, Johanna Kristof and Ermioni Lamprianidou, recorded a second-place time of 13:41.77, the best finish for a Golden Hurricane boat on the day. TU finished behind the Alabama 'A' boat by just under 10 seconds, while the Tulsa 'B' boat was sixth.
Chloe Henderson, Madlen Markova, Sarolta Papp, Johanna Kristof and Millie Brice raced the Collegiate 4+ 'A' to a third place mark with a time of 15:26.57, trailing Gonzaga (15:12.94) and Alabama (15:18.41). TU's 'B' boat was fourth, while the 'C' boat finished ninth and the 'D' boat was 11th in a field of 22 boats.
In the Open 2x, Ashley Johnson and Chloe Wild turned in a fifth-place time of 17:12.58.
