Tulsa's Alex Meinhard scored four goals while Ben Barkley added a goal to give Tulsa's fifth-ranked men's soccer team a 5-0 win over Memphis on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 11-1 on the season and 6-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers fell to 4-8-1 overall and 3-4 in the league.

"I thought we moved the ball pretty well in the first half," Head Coach Tom McIntosh.  "They were playing a little bit deep, but we had to move the ball and be patient.  Obviously, Alex had a great individual night and was tremendous.  I thought our back line was good and I was pleased with the overall performance."

Meinhard punched in a goal at the 18:36 mark as his shot deflected off a Memphis defender and into the back of the net.  Tom Protzek set up the attempt as he crossed the ball from the right side into the front of the net.

Meinhard gave TU a two-goal cushion as he beat multiple defenders in the box and shot from 16 yards out, and then earned a hat trick as he punched in a penalty kick in the 49th minute.  Meinhard earned the 16th hat trick in school history and the first since Harris Partain had one against Oral Roberts in 2019.

Meinhard then added a fourth goal, also off a PK, in the 61st minute.  With the goal he became the fourth player in school history to score four goals in a single game and first since Frank Velez hit that mark in 1991.

Barkley added the fifth and final goal of the contest on a combination from Noah Gonsalves and Austen Schweinert.

Tulsa had a 16-8 lead in shots, including a 11-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-5 lead in corner kicks.

Meinhard had a team-best nine shots, while Schweinert added four attempts off the bench.  Alex Lopez logged 75:07 between the posts and picked up just one save, while Nolan Cosgrove completed the game and had two saves.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, October 27 at SMU beginning at 7:00 pm in Dallas.
