TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's and women's basketball teams are offering fans and alumni a sneak peek of what's to come with an open practice at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday.

The men will get things started at 10 and finish at noon, while the women practice from noon to 2 p.m.

This is the first opportunity for fans to see Jeriah Horne back in action for the Golden Hurricane. He's joined by seven returning letterwinners, including The American's reigning Sixth Man of the Year Darien Jackson, Curtis Haywood II, Rey Idowu and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson. Seven of the newcomers will make their first public appearance on the court for TU, including graduate transfer LaDavius Draine, Tim Dalger, Sam Griffin and Nikita Konstantynovski.

The Tulsa women return eight letterwinners, including four starters. TU is led by sisters Maya Mayberry and Wyvette Mayberry.  The duo averaged 14.3 and 12.3 points per game and picked up third-team all-conference and all-freshman team accolades, respectively, a year ago.  Super senior Rebecca Lescay, who was one of three players to start all 19 games last year, returns for her fifth season after receiving an extra year of eligibility stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

Coach Frank Haith enters his eighth season at the helm of the Tulsa men's program. He navigated a tough, covid-altered 2020-21 season, which included knocking off the fifth-ranked Houston Cougars (65-64). It was Tulsa's third top-five win all-time and first since an overtime win against No. 5 UCLA (77-76) in Los Angeles, Calif., on Nov. 20, 1996.

Oklahoma native Angie Nelp is set to start her first season as the head coach of the Hurricane women's team. She brings 13 years of Division I coaching experience to Tulsa, has helped teams reach eight postseason appearances and coached 33 all-conference players and 18 professional players.
