Wyvette Mayberry scored 18 points, but it wasn't enough as the Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 67-46 decision to #14 USF on Saturday afternoon at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 5-9 on the season and 4-9 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bulls moved to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the league.

After missing the Tulane game due to illness, Wyvette Mayberry came back and tallied her second-highest point total on the season, just two-points shy of her 20 points against Cincinnati on January 6.

Maya Mayberry added eight points, while Jessika Evans totaled seven and Rebecca Lescay had six.  Evans pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds, Lescay had three steals and Kayla Moutry had two assists.

Tulsa shot 29-percent from the field, including just 6.7-percent (1-of-15) from three-point range, and 64-percent from the free throw line, while USF was 42-percent from the field, 36-percent from behind the arc and 66-percent from the line.  The biggest difference was from behind the arc as the Bulls hit nine three-pointers to the Hurricane's one.  TU averaged six three-pointers a game heading into the contest.

"Our three-point shooting is one thing we pride ourselves in and it is usually one of our strengths," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "They weren't giving us many open looks.  Our shooting is abysmal and we are struggling on how to fix that.  We were getting good shots, but they just weren't going down.  A lot of that is confidence, especially when you miss the first few or a few in a row, but we have to keep working and get runs going early to give us confidence."

Both teams had 41 rebounds, while USF had a 9-7 lead in steals, a 19-6 advantage in assists and a 3-2 edge in blocks.

Tulsa owned a 24-7 lead in points off the bench, but USF had a 12-9 lead in second chance points, a 26-22 advantage in points in the paint and a 12-7 edge in fast break points.

The Golden Hurricane stayed within two baskets in the first quarter, trailing by five three times, including a 17-12 deficit at the end of the frame.

After trailing by seven (23-16) at the 6:26 mark of the second quarter, a jumper by Rebecca Lescay and a layup by Wyvette Mayberry pulled Tulsa to within three, 23-20, with 4:44 remining in the second frame.  The Bulls, however, went on a 10-0 run to close out the first half with a 33-20 lead.

USF started the third frame with an 11-2 run to climb to a 22-point lead, 44-22, at the 5:17 mark, but Tulsa had a 10-5 scoring advantage to close out the frame down 17, 49-32.

The Bulls outscored the Hurricane, 18-14, in the final frame for the 21-point victory.

Bethy Mununga had a team-best 19 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double, while Sydni Harvey added 14 points, Elisa Pinzan 13 and Mihaela Lazic 10.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, February 17 against Temple.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
