Tulsa Records Nine Top-Three Marks on First Day of ORU Invitational

The Tulsa outdoor track and field teams recorded nine top-three marks in the first day of competition at the ORU Invitational on Friday afternoon at the ONEOK Sports Complex.
 
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, as both the men's and women's teams are set to race in the 100m Dash, 400m Run, 1,500m Run, 5,000m Run and 4x400m Relay, while the women will also compete in the 100m Hurdles and Long Jump in the final day of the ORU Invitational.
 
 
WOMEN
On the women's side, the Golden Hurricane won the javelin and 3,000-meter steeplechase events, while posting two second-place marks and one third-place finish.
 
The Tulsa women swept the 3,000-meter steeplechase event as Ashley Barnes (10:26.30), Katharina Pesendorfer (10:33.01) and Layla Roebke (11:07.45) finished first, second and third.  The trio finished more than 22 seconds ahead of Kansas' fourth-place finisher Alexys Barton (11:29.49).
 
Ali Lund won the javelin event with a throw of 43.72m (143-05), 3.45 meters further than Kansas' Bailey Swift (40.27m), while Rachel Hamel was third with her throw of 23.11m (75-10).
 
In the 800-meter run, Jaidah McCallon recorded a second-place time of 2:10.61, just over two-tenths of a second behind Kansas' Ally Ryan (2:10:40).  Kinga Parrish finished in fourth place (2:18.68), while Maicie Brown was in fifth (2:20.16).
 
Six Golden Hurricane runners competed in the 200-meter dash on the women's side, including a team-best fourth-place finish by Jaidyn McCallon (24.40).  Elizabeth Roca (6 – 24.92), Ca'Purnika Galbert (8 – 25.10), Cara Johnson (10 – 25.36), Kaitlyn Johnson (12 – 25.51) and Hannah Booe (14 – 25.97) round out the TU competitors.
 
Rachel Hamel finished in seventh place with a high jump of 1.42 meters (4'-7.75").
 
 
MEN
On the men's side, TU won the 400m hurdles event, had two second-place marks and one third-place finish.
 
Henry Visser won the 400-meter hurdles event in a time of 54.40, while Emmanuel Okwuone claimed second place with his time of 55.44.  South Dakota State's Manny Phoulom-Smith's time of 55.60 put him in third place.
 
Josh Sutton (21.58) trailed ORU's Aaron Charlton (21.54) by four-hundredths of a second to finish in second place in the 200-meter dash, while Kyran Lacy was third with a time of 21.65.  Daryl Turner finished the race in 12th place (23.05).
 
In the 800-meter run, Kaden Hicks posted a time of 1:57.45 for fifth place, trailing Kansas' Colin Dwyer (1:55.40) and three Golden Eagles runners that took second, third and fourth place.
