
Alex Meinhard Recorded Two Goals in 2-1 Win Over #15 SMU

Alex Meinhard recorded two goals for Tulsa's 25th-ranked men's soccer team to give them a 2-1 win over 15th-ranked SMU on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 5-1-1 on the season, while the Mustangs fell to 4-3 overall.
"We had really good performances from a lot of guys," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We connected pretty well and put them under a lot of pressure in the first half, and I am just happy for the guys. It is a big win for what we are trying to do this season and we just have to keep moving forward from here."
Meinhard scored his sixth goal of the season as he drilled in shot from the top left corner of the box into the lower right corner of the goal at the 19:36 mark. The two teams were scoreless for the next 25:24 off the clock and TU went into the locker room up 1-0.
Gabriel Costa evened the score in the 76th minute as punched in a score from 18 yards out off a an attempted clear from the Hurricane defense.
Meinhard netted the game-winning goal, his fifth of the season, at the 80:41 mark. Will Edwards played a long ball up the middle of the field to Malik Henry-Scott who crossed the ball to Meinhard for the goal from six yards out.
"It was an excellent finish by Alex," McIntosh said. It was a really good ball by Will Edwards and a great ball across from Malik Henry-Scott."
Tulsa had a 17-9 lead in shots, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, while SMU had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Meinhard had a team-best seven shots, while Henry-Scott added three attempts and Ben Barkley recorded two shots. Lucas Cline logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up one save.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, April 9 at Temple beginning at 7:00 pm in Philadelphia, Pa.
