The Tulsa rowing team added Molly Morris and Cameron Nyland to the 2021-22 signing class, as announced today by head coach Kevin Harris.
"Molly and Cam are two outstanding people who are going to add a lot to our team," Harris said. "Molly has been keen on improving and becoming a better rower. She was a swimmer, so while she is young in rowing, she has an old soul as an athlete. I love the enthusiasm and athleticism that she adds to an already great freshman group. Cam, who will enter Tulsa as a graduate student, has accomplished a lot as a junior and undergraduate rower in the UK and brings with her experiences which are going to help our team. She also has a personality and work ethic of a true competitor and I can't wait to have her with her new teammates. We are excited to see both these women on campus next year as they are going to be great student-athletes for Tulsa."
A 6-0 rower from Dallas, Texas, Morris lettered in rowing, swimming, basketball, track and cheerleading at Shelton School. She competed in the 2019 Head of the Colorado, finishing second in the Four and third in the Eight, and captured a third-place mark in the Eight at the 2021 American Youth Cup Series #2. Out of the boat, Morris helped her basketball team advance to the district playoffs and her swim team advance to the State Championship. Morris has been a first-team all-district honoree in the 200 free relay, owns the Shelton School school record in the 500 free, and has advanced to the district track meet in shot put and discus.
"I chose Tulsa because the coaches make academics a priority," Morris said. "I feel like Tulsa rowing appreciates the whole student-athlete, not just numbers. I love the positive energy of the coaches and team, and I see myself thriving there."
Nyland, a 5-11 rower from Warrington, United Kingdom, started competing at national rowing events at the age of 14. She earned a silver medal at the 2016 National Schools Regatta in the WJ18 B Final Quad, and raced in a WJ18 Double at the 2017 Henley Women's Regatta where she advanced to the semifinal.
"My main reason for wanting to come to Tulsa is because of the environment within the rowing squad," Nyland said. "Everyone seems to be likeminded and striving for not only their own success, but also their teammates as well. It seems the same within the education side as the professors really want you to succeed and are willing to help you if you need it."
