Fort Worth, Texas – Four Tulsa women's basketball players scored in double figures but it wasn't enough as TU dropped a 76-64 decision to Wichita State on Monday afternoon in the First Round of the American Athletic Conference Championship at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.  The Golden Hurricane ended the season with a 5-14 mark, while the Shockers moved to 6-11 overall.

"I think a big thing is in the last two games we've improved on the offensive end," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "Having four in double figures is certainly something we've strived to have all season long.  I felt like Wichita State did a great job of isolating their post and point guard and they got easy buckets on us because we couldn't get stops."

Maya Mayberry and Wyvette Mayberry both had a team-best 13 points, while Jessika Evans and Rebecca Lescay added 12 points.  Evans had a double-double as she also recorded a career-high 16 boards.

TU amassed 12 blocks in the contest, while having just 27 in the previous 17 games.  WSU had a 53-44 lead in rebounds, a 20-11 lead in assists, a 7-5 edge in steals.

Wichita State took an 11-5 lead at the 6:15 mark of the first quarter, but a three-pointer by Jessika Evans pulled TU to within three, 11-8, at the 5:20 mark.  WSU had a six-point advantage twice more in the frame, but the Hurricane trailed by just two, 16-14, at the end of the quarter.  Tulsa shot just 25-percent from the field in the first 10 minutes (4-of-16), while Wichita State shot 31.8-percent (7-of-22).

Tulsa battled back and took a 20-18 lead at the 6:52 mark of the second quarter.  There were four more lead changes and four tied scores in the frame, but the Hurricane owned a 32-30 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, neither team led by more than four points and there were five tied scores, including a 48-48 mark with 10 minutes to play.

The score was tied at 50-50, but WSU scored nine straight points to own a 59-50 lead at the 6:46 mark of the final frame.  Maya Mayberry hit a three-pointer at the 6:35 mark, TU's first basket in over two minutes off the clock.

WSU climbed to a 10-point advantage, 66-56, with 3:06 to play in the contest.  Tulsa then cut their deficit to just four, 66-62, on a jumper and three-pointer both by Evans, and a free throw by Maddie Bittle.  The Shockers outscored Tulsa, 10-2 to close out the game for the 12-point victory.

WSU was led by Asia Strong with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Tajata Colbert and Seraphine Bastin both had 11 points.
