Tulsa's 23rd-ranked men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Temple on Friday night at the Temple Sports Complex in Philadelphia, Pa. The Golden Hurricane fell to 5-2-1 on the season, while the Owls moved to 3-4-1 overall.
Â
Coming into the contest, Tulsa had only allowed four goals on the season, but the Owls doubled that number in j90 minutes.
Â
"It was a disappointing display from all of the guys," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "When you lose like that, coaching staff and players, we all didn't come to preform like we needed to. Give credit to Temple. They defended us well, forced us into making bad passes, got forward quickly and ran at us when we created errors. They played well and the habits we've created didn't display tonight. It was a bad night and we have to learn from it."
Â
With just 12:08 ticked off the clock Sean Karani picked up the ball 40 yards out, dribbled forward, split two defenders and kicked the ball through the legs of Mariano Fazio and into the lower left corner of the goal, just out of reach of a diving save attempt by Lucas Cline. This was the first goal the Golden Hurricane had given up in the first half all season.Â
Â
Nigel Griffith gave the Owls a two-goal cushion as Mickael Borger, who was at the top right corner of the box, served the ball in and Griffith one-timed it into the lower left side of the net. Temple took that 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Â
In the 55th minute, Griffth picked up the ball at midfield, dribbled it into the six-yard box and left it for Jalen Campbell who drilled it into the back of the net. At the 72:09 mark, Griffith took a shot that was saved by Cline, but Karani punched in the put-back attempt for his second goal of the night.
Â
Jonathan Cervantes got one back for Tulsa as he drilled in a penalty kick at the 78:42 mark. This was Cervantes first goal of the season and second of his career.
Â
Temple had a 10-7 lead in shots, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal, and a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.
Â
Ben Barkley had a team-best two shots, while Chase Bromstedt, Malik Henry-Scott , Henry Sach, Luke Jeffus and Cervantes all added one attempt. Cline logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up two saves.
Â
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, April 6 at SMU beginning at 3:30 pm in Dallas, Texas.
