
Tulsa Men’s Tennis Plays USF Thursday in First Round of The American Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. –– The 38th-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's tennis team opens play this Thursday, April 22, in first round action at the American Athletic Conference Championship against the 37th-ranked South Florida Bulls.
The match will take place at 11 a.m. (CT) / 12 p.m. (ET) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Tulsa (11-11) comes into the tournament as the No. 6 seed, while USF (14-8) is the No. 3 seed. The two teams met last week in Tampa as the Bulls claimed a 4-1 victory. USF has won five of the first six conference championships and have gone 17-1 all-time in The American Championship.
The Tulsa-USF winner will play the winner of the SMU/Tulane match on Friday, April 23, at 3 p.m. (CT). Tulane (14-6) is the No. 2 seed and SMU (17-13) comes into the tournament seeded No. 7.
UCF earned the No. 1 seed for the second consecutive season after the Knights went 19-3 in the regular season. The Knights take an 11-match winning streak into the postseason tournament. All seven teams competing in this year's championship were ranked in the top 50 in the most recent rankings. UCF is ranked 11th, Tulane 19th, USF 29th, Memphis 32nd, Wichita State 33rd, Tulsa 43rd and SMU 50th.
Temple will not compete in this year's American Athletic Conference Championship. The Owls withdrew from the tournament due to a positive COVID-19 case and the ensuing contact tracing of student-athletes.
The men's championship continues through the April 24 final. The winner of the men's championship will earn The American's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
