
Tulsa Men’s Tennis Falls 4-2 to USF at The American Championship

TAMPA, Fla. –– The sixth-seeded Tulsa men's tennis team fell in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday 4-2 against the No. 3 seed USF Bulls. The 43rd-ranked Golden Hurricane dropped to 11-12 on the year, while the 29th-ranked USF Bulls improved to 14-9.
USF took the doubles point before Tulsa knotted the score at 1-1 as USF's Jakub Wojcik, ranked 37th nationally, retired his No. 1 singles match to No. 80 Kody Pearson due to injury. Pearson was ahead 6-5 in the first set at the time.
USF increased its lead to 3-1 with wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Tulsa's Callum Gale brought Tulsa within a point at 3-2 with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 victory at the sixth position.
The Bulls closed out the match when Ivan Yatsuk grabbed a three-set 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Tulsa's Stefan Hampe at the No. 3 slot.
USF advances to semifinal action on Friday.
