Tulsa’s Patrick Dever Shatters School 5,000m Record and Earns First Place at John McDonnell Invitational

Patrick Dever shattered Tulsa's 5,000m record with his personal-best and first-place finish in the 5,000m Run Invitational, while the women's track and field team earned three top-three marks on Saturday night at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.  The teams return on Sunday to compete in the long jump, 4x100m relay, 800m run, 400m dash, 100m dash, 100m hurdles and 4x400m relay.
 
MEN
Patrick Dever tallied a personal-best, program-best and top mark with a time of 13:28.08 in the 5,000m Run Invitational.  TU's previous school record was 13:36.81 set by Marc Scott in 2015, a record he shattered by more than eight seconds.  Scott Beattie recorded Tulsa's fourth fastest time in school history and the eighth best in the race with his time of 13:59.24, while Peter Lynch was ninth with his time of 14:00.28 for sixth in school history.
 
In the 200m dash, Josh Sutton turned in a personal-best and fourth-place performance with a time of 21.38, just 0.08 out of the top-three, while Kyran Lacy was 12th (21.83). 
 
In the 1,500m run, Isaac Akers recorded a sixth-place time of 3:45.71, just 2.32 seconds behind Wichita State's Zack Penrod's first place time of 3:43.39.  Christian Baker (8 – 3:47.87), Cameron Field (9 – 3:47.96), Malte Propp (12 – 3:50.40), Pete Johnson (14 – 3:51.05), Jerik Embleton (20 – 3:53.10), Chris McLeod (22 – 3:53.69) and Ryan Shumaker (26 – 3:58.90) round out TU's competitors.
 
Henry Visser (53.22) and Emmanuel Okwuone (54.95) finished in seventh and 11th place in the 400m hurdles.
 
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Reed Sahadevan earned a seventh place time of 9:10.18.
 
Brett Davis recorded a seventh-place time of 14:45.87 in the 5,000m run, while Henry Williams (14:57.48) and Greg Fehribach (14:58.93) finished 14th and 15th, respectively.
 
WOMEN
Ali Lund registered a personal-best and Tulsa's second-best javelin throw with a distance of 46.35m (152'0") for second place.  Lund's previous personal best was 150'3" set at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships, while the school record is 159"1" by Katy McGillen in 2006.
 
Chloe Hershenow recorded a top finish in the 5,000m Run with a time of 17:13.32, more than 3.5 seconds ahead of the second place finisher Abbey Yuhasz who ran unattached.
 
In the 5,000m Run Invitational, Caitlin Klopfer turned in a third place time of 16:21.58.  Her time marks a personal best and is the fourth-best in school history.  Carolina Miller recorded a fourth place time of 16:43.53, while Jenny O'Bryan was seventh (16:48.18) and Alice Newcombe was 12th (17:09.90).
 
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Katharina Pesendorfer posted a fourth-place time of 10:20.48, while Ashley Barnes was sixth in a time of 10:23.36 and Layla Roebke was eighth with her time of 10:46.32.
 
Keely Jones turned in an 11th place performance in the 1,500m run with her time of 4:39.35.
 
Ca'Purnika Galbert (24.74), Jaidyn McCallon (25.00) and Cara Johnson (25.04) finished in 17th, 18th and 19th place, respectively, in the 200m dash, while Hannah Booe was 1.05 seconds back in 36th place (26.09).
