Tulsa Men’s Tennis Downs Drake 6-1

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's tennis team downed the Drake Bulldogs 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa improved to 10-8 on the season, while Drake fell to 4-5.

Tulsa captured the doubles point and won singles at No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 positions. Kody Pearson put the Hurricane up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot after taking 5-1 leads in each set. Tulsa went ahead 3-0 when No. 4 Juan Pablo Cenoz won his match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Connor Di Marco got Tulsa its fourth point to clinch the match when he posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position. Tulsa went up 5-0 when Ezequiel Santalla won 7-6, with 7-1 in the first set tiebreaker, and 6-2 in the final set at the No. 3 spot.

Drake put its only point on the board by winning at the No. 5 spot. The match ended when Tom Thelwall-Jones at the No. 6 spot went to a third set tiebreaker where he won 10-8. He won the first set 6-1, before forcing the tiebreaker in the final set after a 7-6 loss in the second set.

Tulsa will be back in action at the Case Tennis Center this Wednesday against Temple at 12:30 pm.
