
Ashley Barnes Earns Bronze Medal in 3,000m Steeplechase at The American Championships

Ashley Barnes earned a bronze medal in the 3,000m steeplechase on Saturday afternoon at the American Athletic Conference Championships at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The conference championship will conclude on Sunday.
WOMEN
Ashley Barnes earned a bronze medal in the 3,000m steeplechase with her time of 10:16.77. This was a personal-best and the second-fastest time in program history. Katharina Pesendorfer finished fifth (10:38.25), while Layla Roebke was sixth (10:46.10).
In the long jump, Carsyn Spurgeon had a season-best distance of 6.03m (19'9.5") to finish in sixth place.
Rachel Hamel finished 17th in the heptathlon after competing in the final three events today, including the long jump (18th – 4.80m (15'9")), the javelin (17th – 24.32m (79'9")) and the 800m run (12th – 2:30.69).
Brianna Hays and Jaidah McCallon both advanced out of today's Heat and into tomorrow's Final as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 2:09.77 and 2:10.20 in the 800m run. Hays' time is a new personal-best, topping her previous mark by over 1.5 seconds.
Jaidyn McCallon and Ca'Purnika Galbert turned in times of 55.46 and 56.18 in the 400m dash Heats, but did not advance to the Final.
MEN
Pete Johnson and Reed Sahadevan tallied fifth and seventh-place marks, respectively, in times of 9:12.17 and 9:13.14 in the 3,000m steeplechase.
In the 800m run Heat, Jacob Brown finished with a time of 1:52.60 for fourth place and qualified for tomorrow's Final, while Kaden Hicks was sixth in the same race with a time of 1:54.64. Both student-athletes set new personal-best times in the event.
Kyran Lacy turned in a time of 48.81 in Heat 2 of the 400m dash, but did not advance to the Final.
In the 100m dash Heats, Josh Sutton posted a time of 10.45 and Zachary Adee had a time of 10.51, but neither advanced to the finals. Sutton's time was the same as his personal-best set earlier this season at the John McDonnell Invitational.
