Tulsa’s Patrick Dever Wins 1,500m Run and 5,000m Run Titles at The American Championship

Tulsa's Patrick Dever won both the 1,500m run and 5,000m run events at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla.  Isaac Akers earned a silver medal in the 1,500m run, TU's 4x100m relay team was second and Peter Lynch was third in the 5,000m run.
 
Throughout the three-day event, Ashley Barnes (3rd - 3,000m steeplechase), Caitlin Klopfer (1st – 10,000m) and Jenny O'Bryan (3rd - 10,000m) earned The American all-conference honors on the women's side, while Zachary Adee (2nd – 4x100m), Isaac Akers (2nd – 1,500m), Patrick Dever (1st – 1,500m; 1st – 5,000), Kyran Lacy (2nd – 4x100m), Peter Lynch (3rd – 5,000m), Josh Sutton (2nd – 4x100m) and Henry Visser (2nd – 4x100m) earned honors on the men's side.
 
MEN
Patrick Dever won the 1,500m run event with a time of 3:41.18, the second-fastest time in school history and a new conference record at the Championship.  Isaac Akers picked up a silver medal in the event, finishing 2.01 seconds behind Dever in a time of 3:43.19, while Cameron Field was fifth (3:45.50), Christian Baker was 11th (3:56:26) and Pete Johnson was 12th (3:59.16).
 
Dever also won the 5,000m title as he set a new American Athletic Conference Championship record with a time of 13:41.68.  Peter Lynch also finished atop the medal stand with his third-place performance of 14:08.78.  Rounding out TU's performers were Scott Beattie (5th – 14:19.07), Isaac Akers (6th – 14:25.12), Jackson Schwartz (7th – 14:34.58), Chris McLeod (8th – 14:35.25), Malte Propp (9th – 14:35.73), Jerik Embleton (17th – 14:59.23), Brett Davis (18th – 15:00.87), Ryan Shumaker (23rd – 15:08.49) and Reed Sahadevan (24th – 15:10.00).
 
Zachary Adee, Kyran Lacy, Josh Sutton and Henry Visser raced the 4x100m relay to a time of 40.22 to claim a silver medal.  TU finished eight-tenths of a second behind the Houston team.
 
In the 4x400m relay, Kyran Lacy, Emmanuel Okwuone, Henry Visser, Josh Sutton recorded a time of 3:14.85 for fourth place.
 
Visser crossed the finish line in a time of 52.68 in the 400m hurdles, while Jacob Brown registered a time of 1:53.79 in the 800m run to both finish sixth.
 
WOMEN
Caitlin Klopfer turned in a fifth-place finish with a time of 16:51.69 in the 5,000m run, while Jenny O'Bryan was 1.86 seconds back in sixth place (16:53.55).  Caroline Miller was 10th (17:26.76), Chloe Hershenow was 11th (17:29.65), Ashley Barnes was 12th (17:31.27) and Alice Newcombe was 13th (17:34.76).
 
In the 800m run, Brianna Hays recorded a fifth-place time of 2:10.43 and Jaidah McCallon was eighth in a time of 2:12.96.
 
Katharina Pesendorfer and Keely Jones finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 1,500m run with times of 4:31.77 and 4:31.91.
 
In the 4x400m relay, Ca'Purnika Galbert, Jaidah McCallon, Brianna Hays, Jaidyn McCallon were 11th with a time of 3:46.49.
