TULSA, Okla.  –– The University of Tulsa softball team added prep catcher Jayla Park to its 2021 signing class, Head Coach Crissy Strimple announced today.

Park comes to Tulsa from Spring (Texas) High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner on three undefeated District 16-6A championship teams. During her four seasons, Spring High School posted an overall record of 82-27 and a 45-0 district mark.

"We're excited to get the caliber of player like Jayla to join our program late in the recruiting cycle," said Strimple. "Jayla comes from a great high school program at Spring Hill. She has shown her ability defensively behind the plate throughout her career and the last two seasons has really performed outstandingly at the plate hitting nearly .500."

The 5'8" catcher batted .462 her senior season (2020-21) with 33 hits, 26 RBI and a .615 slugging percentage while helping her team compile a 22-7 overall record and 14-0 mark in district play. She also had a .989 fielding percentage as a senior.

Park was twice named the MaxPreps Player of the Game her senior season when she was 2-of-2 with 4 RBI against Westfield High School and was a perfect 3-of-3 with 4 RBI vs. Nimitz High School.

In a shortened 2019-20 season, Park hit .553 her junior campaign with an .815 slugging percentage while totaling 21 hits and 14 RBI in 16 games.

Park had a career .429 batting average with 67 hits, 52 RBI and 32 runs scored in 68 career games played. She began her career in the 2017-18 season as a freshman batting .308 with 10 runs and eight RBI.
