Cross Country Opens 2021 season at Cowboy Preview on Wednesday

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's cross-country team is ranked No. 8 nationally in the first USTFCCCA poll of the 2021 season.
The Golden Hurricane finished a pandemic-altered 2020-21 season in sixth place at the NCAA Championships. Senior Patrick Dever turned in a school-best fifth-place finish with a 10K time of 29:59.9.
Defending champions Northern Arizona take the spot in the poll, followed by Notre Dame, BYU, Oregon and Stanford. Making up the latter half of the top-10 are Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Butler and Iona.
Oklahoma State and Tulsa were ranked 1-2 in the USTFCCA Midwest Region. The Tulsa women, coming in off their second-straight NCAA Championship appearance, received votes in the USTFCCA national poll and are ranked sixth in the Midwest Region.
The cross-country program will start its season at the Cowboy Preview on Wednesday morning at the OSU Cross Country Course.
The Golden Hurricane join the hosts, Oklahoma State, and the University of Oklahoma in the event. The men's 5k event starts at 8:00 a.m. (CT) and the women's 3k at 8:30.
The Hurricane return five of seven runners, including All-Americans Peter Lynch and Isaac Akers. Scott Beattie, Shay McEvoy and Malte Propp are also back.
The women return five of their seven runners, including Katherine Pesendorfer and Caroline Miller, who had top-10 finishes at the previous American Athletic Conference Championships. Alice Newcombe, Layla Roebke and Abby Yuhasz join them. Keeley Jones, who ran at two of the three events a season ago, also returns for the women's team.
For the men, Propp will run tomorrow. Christian Baker, Jerik Embleton, Michael Gates and Max Nores, making his Tulsa debut, will also be on the course.
For the Women, Newcombe, Jones and Yuhasz will feature at the Cowboy Preview. Joining them is Maya Boschee, Chloe McEachran, and Kylee Reed
