TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane volleyball team returned to the practice court on Monday in preparation for the 2021 season as preseason camp began with two practice sessions at the Volleyball Practice Center in Mabee Gymnasium.

The 2020 college volleyball season was played in the spring last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Entering his eighth season as head coach, Ryan Willis holds a 110-92 record at Tulsa. In last year's quirky season, the Hurricane posted a 2-8 record.

Tulsa returns all seven starters from last year's team, including 100% of last year's kills, and second-team American Athletic Conference selection Maggie Hembree, who led the team with 41 blocks from her middle blocker last season. Fellow graduate student middle blocker Callie Cook returns to the team, and the duo will look to pace the Hurricane up front after tallying a combined 159 kills and 65 blocks a season ago.

Outside hitter Kayley Cassady returns for her junior year following a team high 112 and Hannah Overmyer is back for her senior season after leading the team in digs with 181. Senior Roosa Rautio also returns after facilitating the offense with 348 assists last year.

Tulsa volleyball begins its 2021 campaign on August 27 against Nebraska at the Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska at 11 a.m. The Hurricane opens the home season when it hosts the Tulsa Invitational, Sept. 10-11.
