
Cassaday’s Career Day Lifts Tulsa Over North Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas. ― Kayley Cassaday was a force to be reckoned with Saturday afternoon, tallying a career-high 22 kills as the Tulsa Volleyball team swept North Texas to close out the UTA Classic 25-22, 25-16, 25-23. Tulsa, who was named winner of the UTA Classic, moves to 2-1 on the season after showing resiliency all tournament while competing with a depleted roster due to the COVID-19 interruption from last weekend.
Cassaday, a native of Overland Park, Kansas, recorded 11 kills in the final set, including the match clincher. Cassaday also recorded her second straight double-double after notching 11 digs.
Bailey Rowe continued her strong play this weekend, striking nine kills on .421 hitting percent. Roosa Rautio facilitated 34 assists while tacking on nine digs.
Cassaday, Rowe, and freshman libero Marta Pecalli were all named to the UTA Classic All-Tournament Team.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first set, Tulsa went on an 8-0 run that would propel them to a 25-22 first set victory. The Hurricane rolled that momentum into the second set, going on a 12-3 run to take the set 25-16.
The Hurricane were down 22-21 late in the third set when Cassaday ripped off three kills in crunch time, helping Tulsa secure their second win of the season.
Tulsa will make its home debut at the Reynolds Center Friday, September 10th against Stephen F. Austin at noon, the first of three games the Hurricane will play in at the Tulsa Invitational.
